Pack Out Manager

+BOX is looking for volunteer Pack Out Managers to lead +BOX Pack Out events. We have expanded the program to include four new school distribution partners for the 2022-23 school year and need volunteer support to build capacity and meet the demand in our community.

+BOX is a school-based, nutrition focused food security program that makes it easier for children and families to consistently access healthy whole foods. +BOX is designed to minimize barriers to nutritious foods by partnering with local growers, food rescuers, and neighborhood schools to distribute boxes of fresh, healthy, nutrient rich foods on a weekly basis. Every +BOX includes enough nutritious food for families to create up to ten healthy, culturally relevant, meals. This school year, +BOX will support between 550 and 650 food insecure families every week in North County school communities.

The +BOX Pack Out Manager will lead our weekly volunteer Pack Out events. Pack Outs bring together a team of volunteers to assemble and pack up boxes with healthy whole foods for food insecure students and families in our community. Pack Outs take place four times per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The +BOX Pack Out Manager will lead the event, provide direction to volunteers, ensure that volunteers are effectively packing, sealing, and loading boxes, then clean up and lock up. You also get to choose the playlist!

The +BOX Pack Out Manager will:

• Arrive at the +BOX Warehouse in Carlsbad by 3:30pm for your designated Pack Out shift

• Welcome volunteers and ensure they sign in

• Provide volunteers with instructions for participating in the Pack Out

• Support volunteers throughout the Pack Out

• Ensure volunteers help clean up the warehouse before leaving

• Store left over food items appropriately

• Lock up the warehouse

• Feel awesome about adding to the world for ensuring food insecure children and their families have consistent access to healthy food.

Qualifications:

• Be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver's license

• Be willing to participate in two to three training sessions with +BOX staff prior to leading your own Pack Out

• Be willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds

• Be comfortable managing a group of volunteers, giving direction, and speaking effectively in front of a group

• Be willing to drive and park the +BOX delivery truck (16 foot box truck)

Compensation & Details:

• You’ll receive +BOX tee-shirt or hat (your choice) to rep during your Pack Outs

• As a volunteer member of the +BOX team, you will be granted access to the warehouse, often without +BOX team members present.

• +BOX staff will provide you with training and instructions for effectively leading a Pack Out.

• +BOX will provide you with emergency contact information, if ever needed.
